Derek's organ building career started with Kenneth Jones Pipe Organs, Bray over 50 years ago and included some specialist training with Pels & Van Leeuwen, Netherlands, followed by a few years with Wells-Kennedy Partnership, Lisburn and contract work with J W Walker & Sons, Suffolk, until he set up his own Dublin-based company in 1995.
As a choir director and organist himself, Derek brings an understanding to his work that few organ builders can offer. He knows not only the mechanics of an instrument, but what it demands of a musician and what it means to a congregation — an insight that informs every decision, from the voicing of a new build to the priorities of a restoration.
Derek works closely with clergy, music directors and church committees throughout Ireland, advising on the upkeep and future of their instruments. His approach is personal and unhurried — he takes a genuine interest in every organ under his care, always focused on achieving the finest possible outcome for both the instrument and the client.
As an organist and choir director, Derek understands a congregation's musical needs from the inside out.
Every instrument receives individual care — no two organs are alike, and no job is treated as routine.
Long-standing relationships with clergy and church committees across Ireland, built on honesty and expertise.
Decades of expertise spanning tuning, restoration, new builds and conservation of heritage instruments.
Whether it's a routine service or a major project, Derek is happy to advise. Get in touch for a conversation.
